Kellie Pickler is one of "American Idol's" top performers, even though she did not win the award. Born Kellie Dawn Pickler June 28, 1986 in Stanly Memorial Hospital in Albemarle to Cynthia Morton and Clyde Raymond Pickler. The time she was pregnant the mother of her child was only 16 years old. Pickler's childhood was difficult due to her father's addiction to alcohol and drugs while Pickler's mother had left her aged only 2. Morton took Pickler's custody for two years. Pickler admitted that things were bad. "I remember my mother and I in the kitchen, and I remarked, 'I'd rather God could take me away because I'd rather be dead than live here with you.' She took a knife out and placed it on the counter and said"Here's what you need to do and then.' It was the fourth grade. Of course I never would be able to take it into consideration however it has caused an awful amount of emotional damage," she said. The court ultimately handed Pickler to her grandparents at the age of she was 12 and Morton was not present at the hearing. Pickler was brought up by her grandmothers throughout her entire life. They are cited as having the greatest influence throughout her life. The mother Faye Pickler died from lung cancer in the month of January, 2002. she was subsequently raised by the grandfather. Pickler graduated with a graduation diploma from the North Stanly, located in New London, North Carolina.
